Stephen Burke – Utility

Stephen Burke is a fine-art painter from Dublin who now lives and works in Glasgow. Having studied Printmaking at NCAD and receiving a masters degree in painting in Glasgow in 2018, Stephen now produces work based on the urban environment.

In particular, Burke has focused on the art of graffiti removal known as ‘buffing’. From photographs taken of these ‘buffs’, Stephen creates his own paintings and sculptures using related materials such as aluminium, emulsion and spray paint. In his show ‘Unity’, Stephen showcases new works which draw the viewers attention to seemingly mundane and irregular features of the urban environment and challenges their perception.
