Hallahan & Welch – And The Tide Was Way Out
In their first joint show Paul Hallahan and Lee Welch challenge how we see the world with works inspired by the idea of Utopia and the end of perceived history. Each artist has approached the theme differently yet they come together and, for the the first time, have collaborated on two new paintings. Their figurative and abstract paintings engage with the architecture of the space and provide a unique viewing experience at the Municipal Gallery, Dún Laoghaire.
Hallahan is an Irish artist who specialises in water based painting and installations. His work is inspired by environmental features, tones and textures. His technique involves repetition of patterns, blending of colour and experimentation with texture. Hallahan’s work was produced around the notion of how people interact with the natural world, as opposed to the world they have manufactured. On the other hand, American born artist Lee Welch’s work was produced around the notion of how people people interact with art. The two altering approaches produce a harmonious array of work which captures the viewer’s attention.
